In dark moments, humans gravitate towards light, seeking to banish shadows and to create a flickering, fragile moment of illumination that guides their path through the depths of night. Originally commissioned for Artichoke’s final Lumiere in 2025, Solace is a new artwork by artist Amelia Kosminsky, created as an offering of comfort and hope during our century’s turbulent times.
Composed of hand made, hand sewn lanterns, Solace captures a suspended moment in time, as if each lantern has been caught mid-flight. Reimagined for the Remembrance Hall at the Aberdeen Art Gallery, drifting up above, they invite audiences to imagine the lanterns’ journey and, in turn, reflect and consider their own. This iteration of Solace for Spectra is produced by Pinwheel, and installed by Open Format. The soundtrack is Tayos Caves, Ecuador (Meditation Version) by Jon Hopkins.
